Communication was quick enough that I could use it for RPM and speed readings. Everything worked perfectly. The big selling feature of WiFi is that it can be used with Apple products also. I pulled out my iPhone, connected it, and was able to use the App suggested without issue. It is nice to have the ability to pull this stuff up on my iPad or iPhone also. Again, worked perfectly. Another big feature, that might not seem so big if you haven't used one of these before, is the on/off power button. What you may not know is power to your OBD port does not shut off when the car does. If you have an OBD adapter plugged in, and leave it there for more than a few days on without driving, you will have a dead battery. With my other bluetooth version, I have to plug/unplug it every time I drive, which lead to me just not using it much (I also worried about wearing out the port). With this one, you you just touch the power button. Works perfectly, and it is so much better than disconnecting it every time. You can leave it permanently installed, which is huge. Also, the light indicators are bright. I tried to capture some pictures of this, tough because of where the port is, but I think you can get the idea. This helps quite a bit, because many OBD ports are on the bottom of the dash, and you can't see them without getting under and looking up. Since these are bright, you can tell what it is doing without getting out of the driver's seat. Also, you can see when you've left it on. In summary, everything worked perfectly, and I can't think of anything I'd improve on this. It worked with iPhone and Android perfectly, and is low profile, with a smartly added power button that really helps. The speed of the connection was as good or better than the bluetooth adapters I own with only one noted exception is that you loose your net connection when using this adapter unlike the bluetooth style ones so If you are looking up codes you have to disconnect to see what they mean. So for abilities i'd have to go with the bluetooth style but for ease of use on a new device the wifi adapters like this one are hands down easier to connect to since there is no pairing needed its just click and go which by far makes it more compatible and easier to use then the comparable bluetooth adapters. When I first got this adapter the one I received was faulty and would not stay connected, but with a simple email to the Etekcity customer service I received a quick and helpful response trying to diagnose the problem and in the end it had to be replaced which they did promptly and quickly shipped it out. The second unit i received worked flawlessly. I mean there actually is a sharpener that really sharpens a pencil by itself(and you don't' have to hold it either). As for the size, it looks like a normal silver looking yet well built automatic pencil sharpener you'd see at a public school along with being powered by an AC Cord also. There is hardly any noise when it's sharpening a pencil except for when it's grinding or pulling the pencil in and out. The time it takes to sharpen also isn't that long either unless the pencil hasn't even been used yet. Almost every pencil I used in this sharpener all turned out fully sharpened and I haven't had any problems of the sharpener pulling in the pencil in. Well I did with this one pencil that looked a character type one. It seemed that it just would start unless I slightly push it in myself and after that it normally pulled out fully sharpened. I don't know why that happened but I do believe it had something to do with the thickness the paper on the pencil and the inside grinder part wasn't big enough to fully pull it in, but that's just my opinion though. Now for any other kinds of pencils, I didn't try as I don't have them. The main ones I have in my household are pencils that are used for writing which my son uses for school(which also where the character wrapped pencils came in play at). Overall, to me, I think this is a pretty good sharpener for having for your kids when they need a sharpened pencil to do their homework assignment or even having in your own office but do know that it will work way better for No.2 Pencils than the other ones though. The automatic electric pencil sharpener from Etekcity has to be kept plugged into the wall for it to work. That makes it perfect to have on a desk. It came with a 9V DC adaptor. It sharpens pencils really fast and it even stops sharpening when it is sharp. There is a removable compartment for all of the pencil shavings to fall into. You can easily remove it to empty it and put it back in. The bottom of the pencil sharpener had four rubber pads to keep it from moving around when you are using it. We have been through more pencil sharpeners than I care to count, and I'd pretty much given up. I'm a veteran of pencil sharpeners -- I was a school teacher for over ten years, and while each classroom does (or did then) have a pencil sharpener, I had an electric one on my desk. It was for me... but, of course, students would use it here and there. Considering I saw an average of 125 students per day, "here and there" adds up. Still, that pencil sharpener held up year after year, moving from one school to another, and even getting moved to my desk at home, until (finally), when my own children reached school age, it wore out. I thought twenty years was an exceptional run. Turns out I was right. I don't expect a pencil sharpener to last 20 years, but I do expect it to do two things: 1., sharpen pencils and 2., last at least a year. And when we started attempting to replace my old workhorse, we got a surprise. First -- and most disappointing -- most sharpeners we purchased did a LOUSY job. The pencil wouldn't have a proper point (70% wood and 30% graphite does not for a good point make)... or worse, the pencil sharpener would just CONSUME the pencil -- just chew it up. We tried electric, we tried manual. Nothing helped. The only ones that worked and worked consistently were the little plastic ones with razor blades. Do you know how hard it is to keep kids from losing those? SO frustrating. Second -- and incredibly annoying - we'd have a sharpener, and it would just... break. Stop working, Not hold where it was installed. In a different situation, I might "blame" the kids for being rough, but in this one, even my husband and I couldn't get the pencil sharpeners to last. Not a single sharpener we purchased in the last 7 years lasted for an entire year. I finally gave up and started buying cheap automatic pencils. Those aren't a great option -- there's a lot of waste. Even though you refill them, eventually they come apart and then you're tossing plastic in the landfill. Sure, I bet they'd last longer if I bought more expensive ones, but remember, I have kids using them. They lose stuff. So we were making do. Quite a sob story. THEN I got the chance to try this automatic pencil sharpener. I believe our search has ended. In addition to being electric, this sharpener loads the pencil itself, sharpens, and then pushes the pencil back out. There's no guessing when it's sharp, or fussing at the children, "Don't push too hard! We want it to last," because there's no pushing the pencil at all. And it comes with a 1 year warranty. It doesn't take much effort at all, the sharpener does all the work for you. We only had to reinsert a couple of pencils that didn't sharpen fully the first time through. They were from a pack of pencils we had from the Dollar Store, so I don't know if it was just the way the pencils were made or what, but it took a few times to get them to have a nice point. As soon as we switched back to the good old yellow #2's, they each came out perfectly sharpened. We also did a pack of colored pencils and there wasn't any difference -- still sharp as a tack in seconds. I'd say we went through about 25 pencils and then had to dump out the shavings. The sharpener wasn't too loud, but it wasn't ultra quiet either. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. Now on with the review ______________ DESIGN: The design of this unit is sleek and metallic and does well to fit into any office type environment with an addition of a touch of professionalization in mind. I really like the look of it and it really does give off a premium look to it. _______________ DURABILITY: The sharpener here has a good bit of heft to it but not to the point where it is overly heavy. It is light enough to be easily carried around, but sturdy enough to feel like it is made of good durable material. There are rubber grips on the bottom that keeps the unit from sliding about everywhere especially in slippery wooden tables and that is a major plus. My only concern in terms of build quality is the fact that the plastic housing that keeps all the pencil shavings can be a little flimsy. For that price that you will be paying for this sharpener, I kind of expected it to be a little bit better in rigidity than it is. Other than that one flaw, the unit is definitely durable. _______________ INSTALLATION: Etekcity includes a manual with this device but technically there is not need for it. You just plug in in and it works like a charm without any other necessities. _______________ EFFECTIVENESS: When you put the pencil into this machine you kind of have to actually push in more than the average electronic pencil sharpener. The pencil goes pretty deep into the device but after you take it out, what do you know you have a perfectly sharpened pen. I really like the strength of the blades because it got me a sharpened pen every time that I stuck them in and pulled them out. I recommend only using this machine for pencils however and not crayons and colored pencils because it may break your machine or make it less efficient than it originally was. You can tell this one is only designed for pencil use. As far as the sound, I found it to be a lot quieter than the average automatic sharpener. It isn't too loud and a lot easier on the ears. Another plus to the already great product. It isn't completely silent though. It is loud but it is a lot easier on the ears than many other ones out there. _____________ CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a heavy duty pencil sharpener, I definitely recommend this guy. As a college student, I need pencils for test taking so it is nice to quickly push a pencil in before test day and have a well sharpened pencil ready. We like the automatic way the sharpener ejects the sharpened pencil,the points it makes are perfect and incredibly sharp. Sharpening colored pencils we found we could get through 15 - 20 before the shavings catch box is full enough we wanted to empty it. You could probably give it a thump on the side and sharpen a few more but it's no big deal to empty and easier than digging out a jammed up sharpener. The only reason I couldn't give this five stars is the sharpener is we found that a few pencils, always with light colored barrels, would not sharpen no matter how many times we tried them in the sharpener. The one exception, a medium grey pencil, wouldn't sharpen the first four tries but after several other pencils it decided to sharpen the light grey. Fifth time's the charm I guess. Even with the odd fickle behavior this sharpener does a great job in a short time with an acceptable amount of noise. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
